Following a game at US Cellular Field, Parkside Café is the place to go for great American cuisine in Bridgeport; and if Italian is at the front of the mind, try Phil's Pizza on West 35th Street or Gio's Café and Deli on South Lowe Avenue. However, keeping with its rich history, Bridgeport also hosts a magnificent array of ethnic restaurants such as the Healthy Food Lithuanian Restaurant and Ed's Potsticker House.
In terms of retail, Bridgeport is not the neighborhood to visit for chain shopping; but it is the neighborhood for the individual. Notably, it hosts the sportswear store Grandstand Limited, which is a must-stop for all Sox fans. The uniqueness continues with stores such as Augustine's Authentic Spiritual Goods, which boasts perhaps the most obscure collection of occult books and tarot cards in Chicago. Augustine's adds the perfect air of mystery to any day in Bridgeport. Finally, for a taste of the history that Bridgeport carries with it, one can always visit Bridgeport Antiques on South Archer Avenue.
Bridgeport is, above all, a family neighborhood. Among its city blocks are several parks where parents and children gather to play baseball or soak up the summer sun. In July, Bridgeport also hosts the Southside Arts and Music Festival, one of Chicago's famous summer festivals. For the indoor-inclined, as the Arts and Music Festival would indicate, Bridgeport has a small, yet vibrant arts scene that finds a home in several art galleries throughout the neighborhood.
Bridgeport hosts some of the most unique, distinctive architecture in Chicago. From townhouses to condos, anyone can find the perfect home in Bridgeport. Bridgeport is an easily accessible neighborhood, particularly by car, as the neighborhood is bordered by two major expressways. The CTA Red and Orange lines both run through the neighborhood, as do four bus lines.
