Is Your Home Up to Par?

Interior

• Repair any water damage on walls and ceilings
• Repair or replace any broken floor tiles
• Repair or replace any broken or missing wood moldings
• Remove any torn or tattered carpeting
• Do touch up painting to any visibly needed areas
• Install any missing stairway railings (needed if over three steps)
• Make sure all railings and guardrails are properly tightened
• Make sure all doors latch properly
• Dust
• Vacuum
• Tidy up

Electrical

• Replace any scorched or broken outlets
• Install any missing light or outlet cover plates
• Replace any non functioning light/dimmer switches
• Replace any burned out light bulbs
• Clean all light fixtures, exhaust fans and ceiling fans

Plumbing

• Look for leaks around sink and tub mixing handles and water supply lines
• Replace any corroded drain "P" traps
• Replace any cracked or missing caulking around tubs, sinks and backsplashes
• Repair or replace any damaged or missing grout.
• Scrub off any mold/mildew from tubs and showers
• Tighten toilets if loose at floor. If leaking replace wax seal
• Verify that hot water tank has an extension pipe (max 6 inches from floor) on the temperature relief valve

Mechanicals

• Remove dust and dirt from exterior casings of your furnace and hot water tank
• Vacuum all accessible areas of the inside casing of your furnace (shut off first)
• If furnace, A/C or water heater are not functioning well, have serviced
• Change filter
• Check connection of venting pipes from furnace and water heater to exterior
• Remove any storage within three (3) feet of your furnace, hot water tank and electric circuit/fuse panel

Garage

• Verify that overhead door safety reverse is operating
• Remove any heavy soiling/oil stains on garage floor
• Make sure all outlets, switches and lighting fixtures are working
• Remove any old and unsightly items
• Remove excessive storage from rafters

Building Exterior and Roof

• Replace any broken windows
• Repair any damaged siding
• Replace any damaged or missing gutters, downspouts and extensions
• Repair any visible problems to chimney's (cracking brick/mortar)
• Repair/replace any damaged or missing roofing shingles
• Patch where needed on any flat roof surface, parapet wall and all roof penetrations
• If flat roof, make sure the access panels up onto the roof are clear

The Grounds Around Your Chicago Home

• Trim bushes, trees and ground cover away from roof line, siding and walkways
• Install covers on window wells
• Repair any holes in fencing
• Fill cracks on driveways / seal coat asphalt
• Power wash decks and patios, replace any damaged planks, then re-seal the wood if necessary
• Repair loose entry step hand rail
• Lower soil around house to below the foundation line and grade away
